Edinburgh Marathon and Half Marathon

25/05/2014

On Sunday 25th, the Edinburgh Marathon and accompanying Half Marathon was the focus of attention for five Club members, each of whom had trained for months for the challenge of the race that bills itself as the fastest marathon course in the country...

First off at 8am in the Half Marathon was female club captain Margaret Gray who felt strong and ran comfortably in 116 mins and still had enough energy to be chief cheerleader for her club mates who did not start their race until 10am.

The fastest performance in the marathon came from debutant Ranjit Thomas in 3 hours 23 who was able to use his experience and racing knowhow in the step up to the classic distance. After many months of serious training Fiona Jardine was determined to produce her best and started carefully, reached halfway in 2 hours 6 mins and gained in confidence as the race went on by running every step of the way. Fiona was thoroughly delighted to cross the line in 4 hours 22 knocking an extraordinary 30 minutes off her time from 2013.

Sid Oates and Margaret Laurie had also been building up to this target race and were out to enjoy the challenge. Running an even paced race Sid was very pleased to cross the line in 4 hours 51. Margaret had an excellent steady paced run on her debut and finished as fresh as a daisy in 4 hours 53.
